angelspit_2-2013Zombie Boy talks to Angelspit’s Zoog Von Rock about tours, Distortion and MAYHEM!

[ZB] Did any of the venues you played at stand out in your mind?

Zoog:
Prague 2007. The X Bar. It was decked out with robots made from buses. If a transformer turned into a bar, this would be it.
…maybe it would be called BOOZIOD.
We played Prague again last year – it was so much fun! However, The van blew up on the highway…I have a feeling tour vans don’t like it when you pour czech absinthe in their tank…

[ZB] What are your favorite Angelspit songs to play live?

Zoog:
MAGGOT…coz it goes OFF.
STATIC is also awesome fun.

[ZB] Were there any tour van sing along songs?

Zoog:
Anything by Van Halen…usually “Runnin With The Devil”.

[ZB] Tell us if you would, what is the most difficult thing about being on the road?

Zoog:
Finding band members when they get drunk in Las VAGAS and wonder off.

[ZB] What other artists did you get to perform with this tour and who would you still like to share a stage with?

Zoog:
FLESH EATING FOUNDATION and NEEDLE FACTORY are also great fun to rock with!

[ZB] I understand you have begun work on new material. What can we expect to hear soon?

Zoog:
I’m aiming for a September 2013 release. This shit is BRUTAL!
[ZB] Angelspit has often collaborated with other musicians and artists such as Ego Likeness and Combichrist on remixes. Are there any guest artists that will be appearing in upcoming releases?

Zoog:
Yup! …but that’s all under wraps!

[ZB] Angelspit is unique in its rhythmic patterns and beats. What schools of drumming do you draw upon the most to accomplish your unique sound?

Zoog:
I write the beats. Chris Kling and Bradley (Chant) nails them. I like heavy funk. It adds a nice color to pounding electro punk.

[ZB] Out of curiosity, who does the artwork on your releases? Is it collaborative? Revolving door?

Zoog:
Amelia and I work on them together. I have some really cool ideas for the new artwork.

[ZB]  I have to ask. Is George and Val doing a gothic squaredance?

Zoog:
It was a pleasure rocking with Valerie. George took over when Valerie’s crazy performance schedule stopped her from joining us for the 2012 tours.

[ZB] Grotesque social structures and medical experimentation are frequent and fascinating icons of Angelspit’s and have been since its inception. Are these themes going to continue to evolve in the band’s aesthetic?

Zoog:
They are. The core idea is always about society and they way it twists us. From this idea, music, fashion and visuals erupt.

[ZB] The same themes run through the bands amazing merchandise, including but not limited to the unique Fashion Destructo shirts. What inspires Angelspit to reach beyond the mere rock concert tee?

Zoog:
I started the DESTRUCTO Tshirts as a way to massacre shirts specifically for each persons’ taste.
It’s so much fun because I can make the shirt to suit their style – Punk Rock, Military, Cyber, Medico, Zombie Slayer…whatever they want.
I also get to see what our fans want and what style they are getting into.

[ZB] Are there any music videos in the works for Sweet Chemical Girl or Hello My Name Is?

Zoog:
No, I am focusing on the new album. I have several directors itching to get their hands on the demo tracks so they can start working on story boards. The brief is “psycho, fucked up and offensive”….!

[ZB] Angelspit’s music has been described as electronic, punk, gothic, horror inspired industrial and many other genres. Without lumping your work into a single genre which to me seems impossible, how would you describe your music?

Zoog:
“bang bang clang clang fuck you”

[ZB] Favorite zombie movie. Go!

Zoog:
Shawn of the dead

[ZB] What gear does Angelspit favor? Give me the lowdown on the gear you use? (Music instruments and software)

Zoog:
I am a big fan of Doepfer Modular Synthesizers – our sound is built on them. I am also using a lot of old school samplers on the new album. I have an EMU EMAX 1 and 2…love them!

[ZB] What plans are in the works for future tours?

Zoog:
It’s all in the planing stages, but awesomeness will begin in September!

[ZB] How do the members of Angelspit like their human cooked?

Zoog:
BBQ…Texas style.
