Viola from Russian Blog VIOLANOIR.COM reviews Angelspit’s CULT OF FAKE.
[TRANSLATED FROM RUSSIAN]
Angelspit’s sixth full-length album was created under the motto “Fuck Art! Let’s Dance”. Using an arsenal of samples and effects from theie first albums, Zoog Von Rock has masterminded purely dance release. “Cult Of Fake” is a gradation from industrial and electropunk into EBM and dark electro, topped off with powerful social messages and Angelspit’s recognizable sound.
The album begins with a driving track called Thanks For Your Cooperation. It is rapid, rhythmic, thundering electro, in which there is nothing superfluous.
The second track Eat Volts has a similar feel. The title track Cult Of Fake paints more vivid colors due to a peculiar structure and catchy tune. The New Devil manifests melody, followed by I Am Trouble, which sounds epic. The Meditative and sinister Breath lowers the tempo and captivates from the first moments of sound – one of my favorite tracks on this album. Out For Blood reiterates its call to dark electro and shakes the dancefloors, but Sky High, On The List (Shes Not) and Disaster Porn bring some revelation. First, the vocal line, where we hear the voice of Lorelei – this is mitigated by the overall sound, and secondly, again, unusual construction of these tracks. And yes, I also can include them in the list of the favorites of this release. My Little Blade looped track listing for the same rhythmic, uncompromising thundering electro.
“Cult Of Fake“is definitely a modern dance album, yet is old school, concise, and stingy on emotion, with a dash of all-out rage. The album is the essence of Angelspit – undiluted, fretting and knocks the unprepared listener off their legs.
