angelspit-cof-0500

A sonically danceable and dark electropunk album which solidifies the band’s unique musical style.

Anthemic and energetic. Cult Of Fake is an impressive release, a worthy addition to Angelspit’s sonic arsenal. It deserves a very high rating for its dancability, intricate composition and strikingly unsettling lyrics which show their timeliness in society today. It’s unlikely that existing fans will be disappointed.

Angelspit is set to release their latest full-length studio album,Cult Of Fake, on June 6th, 2016. For the unacquainted, Angelspit is an electropunk group, masterminded by Zoog Von Rock, which hails from Sydney, Australia (the band currently resides in the United States). They’ve been able to muster eighteen releases since their inception in June of 2004.

Cult Of Fake solidifies Angelspit’s uniquely sonic aggressive sound while bringing more dance to forefront. The lyrics, which range from social commentary to the poignant effects of excessive partying, are both thought provoking and frightening. For example, lyrics like: “without that soul crushing job, you can’t afford healthcare” and “life is a dream when you’re on sedatives” paint a picture between despair and escape.

The hard hitting nature of the songs and the catchy pacing of the lyrics make this an album you may want to both dance to and sing along with. Angelspit’s song composition is peculiar to them alone, the beats at times flow as if they are simultaneously starting and stopping in many of the songs. This creates the sonic feel that clearly distinguishes the band from others in the electro-industrial space.

Songs which are expected to gain dance attention on Cult Of Fake include: “I Am Trouble” and “Happy Murderland” as they are both anthemic and energetic. Interestingly, the album notes show the BPM of each song; with the fastest being 150 and the slowest being 110. Reading these stats over reveal that only 2 of the 12 tracks actually are presented with the same BPM. This proves that Angelspit’s style is not purely tied to the BPM but rather in their song architecture.

Cult Of Fake is an impressive release, a worthy addition to Angelspit’s sonic arsenal. It deserves at least a 4/5 rating for its dancability, intricate composition and strikingly unsettling lyrics which show their timeliness in society today. It’s unlikely that existing fans will be disappointed.
