Distinctive, harsh, aggressive, and sexy,
Angelspits first full length album is an explosion of energy
that gets stuck in your head like shrapnel.
Australias Angelspit has constructed an incredibly
infectious album containing track after track of crunchy grinding
dance floor friendly anthems that youll find impossible to
get out of your head.
Even tracks I didnt care for at first have
grown on me and run through my head long after the CD is done playing.
For example, the track Juicy stood out like a sore thumb
at first because of the very different vocal style used for that
song. After my initial knee-jerk negative reaction, the song grew
on me considerably and now feels like it fits in the album perfectly.
Picking out the albums highlights is a difficult
task since I dont want to just give a track listing. What
might be easier is to just list the songs that are going through
my head the most often.
A La Mode, A La Mort, Vena Cava,
100%, and Wolf all continue to play in my
subconscious frequently, but it is the last and my personal favorite
track, Wreak Havoc that just will not stop and is slowly
driving me mad. It is an incredibly frantic and energetic track
that sets my blood pumping and makes me want to destroy something.
The album leaves me struggling to find anything
negative to say about it. If I must nitpick, the track Dead
Letter is a bit overly repetitive in the vocals and the instrumental
track Black Wine feels like it drags on a touch too
long. However, those are hardly worth mentioning and dont
detract from the overall quality of the album in the slightest.
This is just an absolutely fantastic album, and
quite easily one of the best Ive heard this year. I really
look forward to what Angelspit has in store for us next and hope
to see a lot from them in the years to come.
