"We wanted to make something that reflected our experience at that time – living in glorious Berlin, being surrounded by so many amazing cultures and languages of Europe. Musically, we were more inspired by the new electro…and applying our punk attitude."

ANGELSPIT - Black Kingdom Red Kingdom (Black Pill Red Pill)

Black Kingdom Red Kingdom

On this new album Angelspit has given the succesful album Blood Death Ivory the remix treatment and this again results in one hell of a record. Tracks like ‘Kill Kitty’, ‘Jugular’, ‘Girl Poison’ and ‘Skinny Little Bitch’ have been successfully remixed by artists like KMFDM, Alec Empire, Ayria, Ego Likeness, I-Scintilla, Left Spine Down and Dave Foreman.

While each artist has given its own interpretation also the original Angelspit is easily recognizable. The best remixes are those by KMFDM and Implant. The one more guitar centered and the other more focused on club electro but both are really awesome. Also the somewhat more atmospheric remix by Dave Foreman of ‘Devilicious’ is quite interesting. The remix by Left Spine Down is the least interesting with its archaic drum ‘n bass influence. The danceable aspect of this album is on an equally high level. In this respect the album is a good achievement.

But what’s often forgotten in reviews is the attention to the visual aspect and exactly this is for Angelspit an important part in their art. Angelspit is quite unique with this. This is reflected in the artwork of this release, which has been remixed too. This results in four posters of 12 by 65 centimetres with stunning graphics. Also the cover is beautifully crafted. To guarantee complete independence Black Kingdom Red Kingdom has been released on a newly founded label in own management, named Black Pill Red Pill. This makes Black Kingdom Red Kingdom more than just another album with a series of remixes.
