ELEGY IBERICA Magazine (Portugal) interviews Angelspit
With Angelspit we have tried to create music which has a genuine punk edge, in the lyrics, the aggression and the instrumentation. Even though we are largely an electronic band we don't want to write clean music, and these influences have a grungy, dirty edge which we have adopted. We have more in common with Nirvana than Covenant in sound and in concept because we're trying to make aggressive, hell raising turbulent music which reflects our world.

ANGELSPIT
GETTING READY FOR UNDER THE BLUE MOON

How would you describe your music?

Loud aggressive Cyberpunk with a very fat edge.

Which of your songs best sums up your band and why?

A new track called Vena Cava. It's fast and clangy with big guitars and FAT synths. It's about being vivisectioned by an insane doctor with a surgical fetish.

If you had to cite influences in your sound, be they emotions, other musicians or artists, what would they comprise of?

Sonic Youth, Skinny Puppy, anger, hatred for television, hatred of our society forcing us to become "beautiful battery hens"...

Can you tell Sydney Gothic what we can except from your live show? Any new tracks or potential surprises?

two people going manic - fucking up our voices with vocoders, bit crushers and modular distorters.
It's about letting it out and going wild, but mostly it's about having fun.
We'll give the audience everything we have. Half the set will be from the yet-to-be-released album

Do you think the scene is growing or is the underground following becoming more vocal and proactive in its support of darkwave artists and musicians?

Anyone who says the scene isn't flourishing or has become less edgy has their heads jammed up their colon. New bands are springing up, new clubs are starting, musician and artist collectives are forming, new shops are opening - THE GOTH/CYBER/INDUSTRIAL SCENE IN THIS COUNTRY IS GOING OFF! I think people are being more supportive and seeing more bands.

If you had to sum 2005 for your band in a few sentences, how would you do so and what are your aims and ambitions for the rest of the year and leading in to 2006?

2005 = EXPLOSION.
We had the privilege of playing in several states to the best bunch of people, we've met stacks of extremely cool people and have been greatly inspired by them. We can't wait to start playing live again.

2006 = SUPERNOVA.
We're working on our new full length album now. We're been hugely inspired by the other bands in the Crash Frequency collective. We're looking forward to blairing our minced-up hyper-agro cyber FUCK-OFF punk at people all over Australia...and maybe even overseas.

KRANK IT UP!
