In German clubs electronic sounds dominate
the floors - are the people in Australia as crazy as the German
crowd? Have you ever been to German Industrial clubs? Which impressions
did you take with you?
ZooG: We haven’t had the
pleasure of being in a German club yet…but we hope to in the
very near future! We’ll be over there for WGT – so we
are very excited about going to as many clubs as we can. We have
heard crazy things about German clubs from our friends that have
been there.
| "People
are writing too much music today that is placid and insincere.
We’re just trying to write music that reflects our fucked
up world… we include elements from hard rock, metal,
indie, powernoise… anything that sonically expresses
our concept. We’re not defined or limited by our musical
industrial genre. "

Destroyx: Australia has a small
population comparatively, so our clubs are therefore quite small.
The clubs are generally quite mixed with a variety of subcultures
often being mixed together, such as Goth, fetish, industrial, punk..
etc. I don’t know if you could call Australian Goth clubs
as being crazy, but people here do know how to have a good time.
People here enjoy a variety of music, so it’s probably not
as electronically based as Europe may be.
Combichrist did a remix for you? Where
did you get to know Andy?
ZooG: We got to know Andy through
our record label. Andy is a mighty talented guy and is amazingly
hard working. He gave us a really good remix – we’re
lucky that many of the remixes on our Special Edition remix CD are
NASTY!
Destroyx: We’ve always been
a huge fan of Andy’s stuff, especially Combichrist, so it
was totally humbling that he could appear on our remix CD.
Lovers of guitar sounds often say that
Industrial music is no art at all - what does this kind of music
mean to you?
Destroyx: Regardless of the instruments
used, music must be a passionate and sincere form of communicating.
It doesn’t matter what genre the music is classified as, industrial,
death rock or whatever… if music expresses emotion and energy
it should be regarded as art. We really love industrial music, because
of its combination the organic and electronic- there isn’t
any better metaphor for the 21st century.
ZooG: I think the problem is that
people are writing music to fit a formula or a genre, hence people
saying there isn’t any art to industrial music. The important
thing is it must crank and deliver power. People are writing too
much music today that is placid and insincere. We’re just
trying to write music that reflects our fucked up world… we
include elements from hard rock, metal, indie, powernoise…
anything that sonically expresses our concept. We’re not defined
or limited by our musical industrial genre.
| "We’ve
grown numb to the sounds of hearts and dreams being shattered.
It’s almost expected that out deep inner desires are
snuffed….and when they are not, our friends gently whisper
failure into you until you crumble
Fuck this world ….it’s not even a joke…it’s
just a machine that turns human beings into robots."

Where do you get your inspiration from?
(According to music, style)
ZooG: Living like a worker ant
in a giant hive called ‘Consumerist, Capitalist World’.
Frequently asking myself what my worth is apart from my earning
and consumerism. Constantly listening to my friends bitch about
how much THEY HATE THEIR JOBS. We’ve grown numb to the sounds
of hearts and dreams being shattered. It’s almost expected
that out deep inner desires are snuffed….and when they are
not, our friends gently whisper failure into you until you crumble.
Fuck this world ….it’s not even a joke…it’s
just a machine that turns human beings into robots.
Destroyx: We draw much of our
inspiration from everyday life. The limitations of being a very
creative person in a money oriented world constantly reminds me
of the shallow consumerism that engulfs humanity today. We’re
not defined by what we feel, but what our spending power is- which
I think is an utterly perverse concept which underlies much of the
anger behind our music. Visually I’m inspired by many artists,
such as J.P. Witkin, Orlan (French performance artist), Mathew Barney,
David LaChappelle and Bill Henson to name a few. Musically, our
favourites at the moment would have to be Sonic Youth and Skinny
Puppy.
What are your expectations / wishes for
2007?
ZooG: To meet motivated, people
who love art and love to create! We are both going to be playing
more gigs and working on new material.
Destroyx: We’re going to
be working on our new album, and of course playing as many insane
gigs as possible. I’m also going to be working on a new video,
website and a heap of visual material to accompany the music.
Are there any music idols you would love
to tour with or doing a remix exchange?
ZooG: Skinny Puppy, Sonic Youth
or Strapping Young Lad! Heavy, driven passionate music!!
Destroyx: There are probably too
many bands that I admire to talk about here, but I’d love
to go on tour with KMFDM and Combichrist. I’d love to do a
remix with Converter or Panacea. We are very lucky enough to be
touring with the Cruxshadows and Ayria in February, which is pretty
much a dream come true.

Music as the pulse of life - which is the
message of your musical pulse?
ZooG: Life is short. You are a
creative being – make art and live!
Destroyx: We make angry music
