ELEGY IBERICA Magazine (Portugal) interviews Angelspit
With Angelspit we have tried to create music which has a genuine punk edge, in the lyrics, the aggression and the instrumentation. Even though we are largely an electronic band we don't want to write clean music, and these influences have a grungy, dirty edge which we have adopted. We have more in common with Nirvana than Covenant in sound and in concept because we're trying to make aggressive, hell raising turbulent music which reflects our world.

ANGELSPIT Interview in ROCK CITY MAGAZINE (March 07)
Interview by Medienbüro Reimnitz.

Tell me please, have you got other releases in the past? Which differences are between the new record and the older ones?

ZooG: Our first EP was Nurse Grenade which was released on the internet in 2004. It was really an experiment in sound and what we could do as a writing team, as it was our first musical project together. It is much more rough, hard edged and DIY. In comparison Krankhaus is much more refined and detailed.

Destroyx: We put much more effort into the visuals and music of Krankhaus and we think it’s definitely more engaging for the audience.

Which musical influences have you got? How would you declare your kind of style?

ZooG: We have many influences – everything from Sonic Youth to Skinny Puppy. We love hard industrial and cyberpunk, we also really enjoy grunge, punk rock, metal and R’n’B. Basically we love any music that has passion and drive!

Destroyx: It’s difficult to classify our music into a particular category because it has many qualities that reflect our varying influences, but I would say we’re a cyberpunk industrial band which has strong electro noise and pop influences.

How do you come to the bandname? Any intention?

ZooG: ‘Angelspit’ is from a Sonic Youth song (Orange Rolls and Angel’s Spit). It’s a brilliant song!

How were the reactions on your new records from the press and the fans?

ZooG: It’s been mostly good! Some people hate it – and that’s OK. We didn’t want to make an album that was just OK…we wanted to make something that people would love or HATE. We are trying to push our personal creative boundries as much as we can – both musically and visually.

Destroyx: We’ve had good and bad reviews which is to be expected. Mostly I think people have been surprised because we are from Australia, and also because we have tried to make a bold statement conceptually.

Which commercial expectations have you got in this new record?

ZooG: We’re honoured that people like it enough to buy it. We would be so happy if we sold enough to make the next album even bigger. We are die-hard artists, all of our money goes back into our art.

Destroyx: I hope that we will sell enough Cds so we will be able to put out our next album which have already started to write. Touring is also really expensive, so anything we make from this album will fund our touring!

"The reaction to KRANKHAUS has been mostly good! Some people hate it – and that’s OK. We didn’t want to make an album that was just OK…we wanted to make something that people would love or HATE. We are trying to push our personal creative boundries as much as we can – both musically and visually."

Are the any planning to come on tour in the next future? Have you often play live in the past?

ZooG: We are very excited about touring more! we are currently on tour along the East Coast of the USA with The Cruxshadows and Aryia – we’re LOVING IT!!! We’d love to come back and tour the central and west coast of the USA. We’re playing Wave Gotik Treffen in May (Germany) – it’s always been a dream for us to play a huge festival like that, we’d love to do a European tour as well…but we’ll see.

Destroyx: We’ve toured Australia and New Zealand before, but have not yet made it to Europe. After WGT we hope to tour throughout Europe and the USA. We love performing live and we go pretty insane on stage. We also really enjoy meeting fans and introducing people to our music.

Have you got a videoclip for the new record? Are there any possibilies for you to get into VIVA or MTV with this clip?

ZooG: We’re currently working on a video for a track on our album called “Vena Cava”. It is being done by two brilliant film makers from Sydney named Drew Bowie and Brad Wiley. It’s dark, evil and beautiful! I doubt MTV would ever play us though, our visuals are probably a little too risky!

Destroyx: We are planning to release some videos this year to promote this album which will probably be quite disturbing in nature!

Next plans in 2007

ZooG: Besides playing Wave Gotik Treffen, we’ll be promoting Krankhaus as much as we can though live shows and (hopefully) more videos. We’ll also be taking on some remixes for other bands.

Destroyx: We’ll definitely be working very hard on our new album which will be harder, darker, crazier than Krankhaus! We’re both workaholics so expect more visually and musically in the future!
