ZooG's notes on the creation
of the tracks "Scars and Stripes" and "Flesh
stitched onto a Frame".
This song is based on a recording of
this Arabic phrase:

Recording guitar on "Scars
and Stripes" and "Flesh stitched onto a Frame"
Rode NT1A and NT1, desk lamp stand, Doepfer
Modules, shitty guitar found in the back alley, Destroyx's
Transmutor collection. |

The drums and percussion
also followed the rhythm of the vocal in this recording.
The steel koto effect was
produced with an old acoustic guitar that we found the back
alley. The strings were old and warn and produced an odd 'twang'
when plucked.
We rested several metallic
objects over the strings so they would resonate as the guitar
was plucked.
The desktop lamp (pictured) created an interesting sound when
we mic'ed metal lamp shade. Running a coin along the lamp's
spring also resonated well through the lampshade. These technics
were also used when recording Black Wine.
We also used a large metal
bowl (similar to a large salad bowl) to resonate the guitar
strings. The bowl was placed over the guitar's sound hole
and added a very metallic quality to the overall sound. We
mic'ed the bowl using 2 mics - one was positioned inside the
bowl (pointing at the bottom of the bowl) and the other was
positioned outside the bowl pointing at the top rim. These
two mics were panned hard left and right.
One problem we found with
this was that the guitar's strings caused the bowl to wobble
and bump the mics. To fix this we partially filled the bowl
with water. The water weighed the bowl down so it would not
rock as we strummed the strings. This produced an interesting
pitch-effect. The water made the metal resonate with a "boing"
sound as the water moved around in the bowl.
